About the Clare Burren Marathon Challenge
Ballyvaughan hosts this long-running community challenge on the edge of the Burren. The full marathon sits alongside half and 10K options, but gives runners the broadest tour of the karst landscape.
Course
The 26.2-mile loop repeatedly switches between road and trail, climbing the Caher Valley, passing Fanore and crossing Black Head before returning to Ballyvaughan. The cutoff is eight hours.
Race-day weather
Late May on County Clare's Atlantic coast can be cool, breezy and wet even when the day starts bright. Rain may make the off-road sections slick, while exposed coastal ground magnifies wind.
