Champion Mine Trail Race Half Marathon
A Sierra foothills trail half that leaves Nevada City's Broad Street and mixes pavement, gravel, and singletrack with a steady set of Gold Country climbs.
Quick facts
- Mixed-surface trail half with pavement, gravel, and singletrack sections.
- Entry fees fund Nevada County trail work through Bear Yuba Land Trust.
- Field runs in the low hundreds, so the singletrack stays uncrowded.
- Multiple aid stations and a 7:30 start help with the climbing and the warmup.
About the Champion Mine Trail Race Half Marathon
The Sierra TrailBlazers Running Club and Bear Yuba Land Trust run this as a fundraiser for Nevada County trail work, and that shapes the day. The field stays in the low hundreds, the start line sits in a Gold Rush downtown, and entry is straightforward rather than competitive.
Course
Runners drop off historic Broad Street onto the Tribute Trail and the Deer Creek corridor, then work through tall pines on a mix of pavement, gravel, and singletrack. A historic swinging bridge and a run of climbs break up any rhythm, so this rewards effort-based pacing over split chasing.
Race-day weather
October mornings in the Sierra foothills start cold in the canyon shade and warm quickly once the sun clears the ridge. Dry dust and firm footing are far more likely than mud.
