Quick facts

Course
The marathon and half start together at 10:00 from 't Zand. The route winds through the city center and along the canal to Damme, returns to Bruges for a southern loop past Sint-Michiels and Steenbrugge, and finishes on the Grote Markt. Organizers describe the course through the city and surrounding polders as flat and fast, and it is measured and certified by World Athletics. Aid stations sit at 3.8, 9.9, 16.2, 20.3, 25.3, 30.5, 35.5 and 40.5 km, and the whole course is closed to traffic.
Race-day weather
Mid-October in Bruges is usually cool, and the open polders around Damme leave little shelter when the wind picks up. Showers are common at this time of year, so plan for damp roads and keep a layer for the wait at 't Zand.
About the Athora Bruges Marathon
Golazo stages the race, which began in 2017 as a local half and full marathon with a few thousand runners and has grown into one of the biggest running events in Flanders. The marathon has sold out in recent years, and race day also brings a half marathon and a 10 km Family Walk. Alongside runners from Bruges and the surrounding area, many entrants travel from France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
