Course
The marathon starts and finishes downtown and runs through South Congress, Hyde Park, East Austin, and the University of Texas area. It is scenic and spectator-heavy, but it is not flat. The early rollers and the longer middle stretch of hills can punish anyone who goes out on PR pace without respecting the course.
Race-day weather
Austin can give you very good marathon weather, but it is not automatic. Expect a cool start with enough variability that the morning can trend warmer, windier, or wetter than you want. Layers at the start and a flexible pacing plan matter more here than at steadier cold-weather races.
