About the Albuquerque Marathon
RunFit added a full marathon to its long-running Albuquerque half marathon weekend, giving the city a spring 26.2 to go with fall's Duke City race. The event starts on the west side, crosses the Rio Grande, and leans on the North Valley Bosque for most of its scenery.
Course
The route crosses the Rio Grande early and spends long stretches in the North Valley with the Sandia Mountains in view. The profile is flat by Albuquerque standards, but the city sits above 5,000 feet, so sea-level runners should expect the altitude to tax the second half.
Race-day weather
Early April in Albuquerque is usually dry, with cool starts in the 30s or 40s and finishes in the 60s. Spring wind is the most common complication, and the high-desert sun feels stronger than the temperature suggests.
