About the Volcano Marathon – Easter Island Edition

This Easter Island edition turns the marathon into a multi-day destination program based in Hanga Roa. The AIMS-member event combines the full distance with Rapa Nui archaeology, volcanic terrain, and an exceptionally remote Pacific setting.

Course

The point-to-point trail route begins at Anakena Beach and follows mostly natural, unpaved ground toward Hanga Roa. Grass, dirt, and volcanic rock lead to Rano Kau, with about 610 meters of total gain before a steep late descent to the finish.

Race-day weather

June is winter on Rapa Nui, but maritime conditions are generally mild rather than cold. Humidity, ocean wind, passing showers, and wet volcanic rock can all affect footing and effort on the exposed course.
