About the Sole to City Half Marathon
Most halfs this size settle for a loop. The Youngstown Marathon Foundation runs a true point-to-point instead, moving runners from a suburban start in Boardman into the middle of downtown Youngstown, and puts the proceeds toward Mahoning Valley charities. Runners park downtown at Penguin City and ride out to the line.
Course
Point to point, dropping from Boardman into the city. The long middle section runs through Mill Creek Park, a wooded park system with shaded park road and rolling terrain, before the route opens up for the finish in the city center. A 2-mile run and walk shares the finish area later in the morning.
Race-day weather
Northeast Ohio in early June is usually cool at a 7:30 start and mild by the time the field finishes. Rain is a realistic possibility, and the park section holds humidity when the air is heavy.
