Course
Runners leave from in front of the old courthouse and head first to the Saône quays, then north toward the Old Town and the Paul Bocuse bridge. The route drops through Croix-Rousse, the old silk-weavers' quarter, circles Parc de la Tête d'Or and follows the Rhône south to the Stade de Gerland before returning to Place Bellecour. Aid stations come every 5 km, but no cups or bottles are handed out, so carry a reusable cup, flask or hydration pack. Pacers run from 3:15 to 4:30.
Race-day weather
Early October in Lyon is often mild, though a sunny day can turn warm by the later stages and showers are possible. With no cups on course, carrying enough fluid matters more here than at most city marathons.
About the Run in Lyon Marathon
Run in Lyon by Harmonie Mutuelle is a city running festival with tens of thousands of participants across the marathon, half marathon, 10 km and an untimed 5 km Solidarity Run. Place Bellecour hosts the event village, the Marathoon's children's races run on the Saturday, and charity bibs support national health and humanitarian causes. Many marathon entrants are running the event for the first time.
