About the Puglia by UTMB I Sassi di Matera
Puglia by UTMB's 100M race links two southern Italian regions in a long journey from Matera's UNESCO-listed Sassi to the sea. Four Running Stones and direct Finals access add a major-series incentive.
Course
The route leaves Matera at night, crosses the limestone Gravine and runs past rock churches, hypogea, olive trees and white-stone villages. Its 3,800 metres of gain end with beach kilometres into Castellaneta Marina.
Race-day weather
Late October is often mild along the Ionian side, but rain can make limestone, farm tracks and canyon passages slick. A night start and exposed coastal finish call for layers that handle both cool air and sun.
