International WACHAUmarathon by Brooks

The Wachau full marathon links two towns along the Danube and finishes in Krems, giving the race a clear point-to-point identity within a larger multi-distance weekend. The open valley, small communities, and long uninterrupted stretches make pacing and position more important than crowd energy.

The paved route starts in Emmersdorf and follows the Danube toward Krems. It is mostly flat, with a short loop near Weitenegg before runners continue downstream through the Wachau Valley. Long sightlines and few major climbs suit an even effort, while exposed river sections can make wind more noticeable.

Mid-September can bring a cool start and mild finish. The river corridor is exposed, so sun and a headwind can matter even when temperatures stay comfortable.
